Project Title: A Street Reconstruction Project

Project Scope:

This project would include the full reconstruction of "A" Street between Thunderbird Road and Meyer Lane. The proposed project would remove and replace approximately 2,000 linear feet of full pavement section, repair or replace any broken or inadequate curb and/or any sidewalks as well as updating ADA ramps to current standards. 

Current Status: Traffic Control plans are being reviewed. Construction begins October 8th with concrete and utility work. Milling of the asphalt anticipated to start on October 23rd.

Project Title: Butler Drive Improvement Project
Project Scope: Butler Drive is a 1/2 mile long collector street that serves a number of industrial businesses between El Mirage Road and the 127th Avenue alignment. The project will include removing and replacing the existing roadway with a 36-foot wide pavement section, installing new water service lines and evaluating the existing fire hydrant spacing along this corridor. MCDOT will extend Butler Drive from 127th Avenue to Dysart Road as part of a future phase of the Northern Parkway project.
Current Status: Concrete work, water services and roadway excavation work has been completed. Scarification and paving begins in the first week of October.

Project Title: Dysart Road Water Line Project
Project Scope: In order to promote development in the square mile between Peoria Avenue, El Mirage Road, Olive Avenue and Dysart Road, the City proposes the installation of approximately 6,000 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron water main in Dysart Road from Dysart High School to Joe R. Ramirez Road. The main will be stubbed to the east and west for future extensions. This work will be done in partnership with John F. Long Properties, LLLP, the property owner of much of the land within this area.  
Current Status: Hunter Contracting's proposal for construction was approved at the September 18th Council Meeting. The project will commence on the week of October 8th.

Project Title: Dysart Road Future Road Project

Project Scope:

Dysart Road is a roadway of regional significance but currently only has one lane in each direction south of Peoria Avenue. The City proposes to widen this corridor to 5 lanes with bike lanes and curb and gutter.  

Current Status: 30% plans and cost estimates have been reviewed by City staff and comments have been provided. Revised plans and cost estimates will be provided to MCDOT for review. A Utility Coordination Meeting took place on October 1st with various stakeholders.

Project Title: Grand Ave Frontage Road Project
Project Scope: The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will lead this project along Grand Avenue. Phase II will include the reconstruction of the Frontage Road from Thunderbird Road to Greenway Road. The design of the project has been identified for funding through ADOT using MAG/Federal funds identified for Grand Avenue Phase II. The Transportation Policy Committee (TPC) included this project as part of the Regional Freeway and Highway Program's 2016 rebalancing pool to address the program surplus in FY 2026. The TPC has recommended a project budget not to exceed $6 million for this effort.
Current Status: Conflicting utilities have been lowered. Underground electrical work and clearing for the fence continues. The installation of storm drain and hardscape grading starts in early October.

Project Title: I.T.S. Project
Project Scope: The scope of this project is to place fiber optic cable within existing conduit that will be installed along El Mirage Road and Thunderbird Road as part of other projects.  This cable will allow for the interconnection of seven traffic signals and five CCTV cameras along El Mirage Road  between Olive Avenue and Thunderbird Road. The goal of this infrastructure is to increase safety and enhance mobility along two of the most heavily traveled arterials within the City. The majority of this project will be funded via a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant from the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG).
Current Status: Inventory of the existing conduit has been completed and force account repairs will begin in early October.

Project Title: Northern Parkway Future Road Project
Project Scope: Northern Avenue is to be widened into an expressway/parkway configuration as a road of regional significance.  The total project cost is currently estimated at $228 million. Costs include Design Concept Report, design, ROW acquisition, and construction shared between project partners El Mirage, Glendale, Peoria, Maricopa County, and MAG regional funding with construction scheduled over the next several years. In accordance with the IGA approved by Council on 6/26/08, the City share of the project is $9.5 million.
Current Status: Phase II (Dysart Rd to 111th Ave): County Board approved award of project. Anticipated start is December 2018. 
Overpasses (El Mirage Road OP & Dysart Road OP):   Combined 95% plans anticipated in late October. 
El Mirage Alternative Access (Butler & 129th): Project was advertised for design on September 6th and it closed October 5th.

Project Title: Thunderbird Road Access Modification Project
Project Scope: This project will provide full access to the east driveway entrance to Casa Mirage Apartments located on the south side of Thunderbird Road between El Mirage Road and Primrose Street.
Current Status: A Traffic Study was prepared to review access alternatives. An alternative has been chosen and City staff will prepare the associated design.
