FOG Program

What is FOG?

FOG stands for fats, oil, and grease which are often left over from cooking.

How does this affect me?

When poured down the drain, FOG can clog your pipes, cause raw sewage backups, and lead to costly repair bills for the resident or the City.

What can I do?

  • Avoid pouring FOG down your drain.
  • Wipe down dishes and pour excess grease and oil into a sealed container (See video below for tips).
  • Toss it in the trash or bring it to a collection site for recycling.
  • The City's two FOG recycling locations are in the parking lots of the El Mirage Fire Station and the El Mirage (Northwest Valley) YMCA. (see below).

Recycle or throw away fats, oils and grease (FOG) to prevent sewage backups. Do not pour FOG down your drain.

Recycled fats, oils and grease are often recycled into a biodiesel for fuel or turned into a feed for livestock. The City of El Mirage has partnered with Baker Commodities for recycling services.

FOG can cause expensive sewer backups for the resident and City.
